Klopp: Strurridge is in 'best condition' since I arrived

Liverpools Daniel Sturridge (C) fights for ball with Sydney FC player Sebastian Ryall

Jurgen Klopp has been speaking positively about Daniel Sturridge's fitness for the first time in a while, saying the striker could end up playing a full part in the club's pre-season campaign.

Sturridge - who has had injury problems throughout his career - has only made 47 appearances in the last three seasons and Klopp has often questioned his fitness.

The England striker is enjoying pre-season at the moment though and could start the season injury-free.

Speaking about the former Chelsea man, Klopp said: "He is in good physical shape, absolutely.

"Daniel could be part of the full pre-season so far so that's very important. It's looking good.

"Pre-season was quite intense, especially in England. He was part of pretty much each session so it's good."

Should Sturridge remain fit for the beginning of the campaign, former Liverpool striker Emile Heskey is convinced he can rediscover his best form.

Heskey said: "He's a great player, wonderful player, wonderful ability

"Not only for Liverpool but for the national team too, but he needs to be playing so we start seeing the best of him.

"When you're sitting on the bench and coming on now and again, you get a few niggles, so I think for Daniel, he needs to be playing regularly."

Perhaps Sturridge will look to force his way into the team and if it isn't happening by January, he will move on.
