Dele Alli named in England squad for upcoming qualifiers despite potential FIFA ban

England's Dele Alli speaks to the media

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Dele Alli has been named in Gareth Southgate's latest England squad despite a potential incoming FIFA ban, whilst Fabian Delph and Fraser Forster return to the fold.

With FIFA still deliberating over a ban for the Spurs midfielder, Gareth Southgate has taken the risk of including Dele Alli in his 26 man squad for the upcoming qualifying matches versus Slovenia and Lithuania in October.

The Three Lions will welcome Slovenia to Wembley Stadium on Thursday October 5th and three days later they will take on Lithuania in Vilnius with qualification likely to have been confirmed should they pick up the three points versus Srecko Katanec's side.

Manchester City midfielder Fabian Delph and Southampton goalkeeper Fraser Forster have both earned recalls to the squad with Southgate missing some key players through injury as Adam Lallana, Danny Welbeck, Jamie Vardy and Danny Rose all unavailable.

The England boss seemed in a rather downbeat mood as he addressed the gathered press after the squad announcement on Thursday afternoon.

"If you were to say 'am I entirely happy with the squad I've named?' then no, because we've got too many good players missing with injury. The consequence of that is you could well argue there are one or two in the squad who haven't necessarily warranted it on their performances" said Southgate.

"I want competition for places and this time maybe we've not be able to achieve that, because of the number of injuries. There's been a couple of easy decisions because I haven't had to make phone calls this week. They are always difficult but I'd rather be making them."
