Danilo set to be first of four more Man City signings

Real Madrid’s Danilo is set to be the first of potentially four more signings for Manchester City this summer, that would raise the total to seven.

City have already brought in goalkeeper Ederson, right-back Kyle Walker and playmaker Bernardo Silva during the close season for combined transfer fees of £120million.

But manager Pep Guardiola has revealed that the business is far from done and confirmed Danilo, who can play in both full-back positions and also as a defensive midfielder, is an “option”.

Guardiola said:
"We have many options for people, players coming, but until the deal is done, out of respect for the other clubs I cannot say absolutely anything.
"But Danilo is one option we have. We are talking with not too many players but three or four players to try, if possible, to join us for not only the next season but the next three, four, five years because all of them are such young players.
"We need that, to refresh with the spirit of the new players. It is good for them, for the older players like Vincent Kompany and the other ones here in the club.
"It will help us to rebuild the club a little bit more.”

Danilo is expected to cost City a fee of around £27million and will be the club’s second full-back signing after Kyle Walker following the release this summer of Pablo Zabaleta, Bacary Sagna and Gael Clichy.

Although primarily right-sided, Danilo can also play on the left where City have been targeting Monaco’s Benjamin Mendy, who now looks a more likely option than Ryan Bertrand because Southampton are reluctant to sell him.

With Joe Hart having been loaned to West Ham United, Willy Caballero now at Chelsea following the expiration of his contract and Claudio Bravo a flop during his first season in England, a back-up goalkeeper to Ederson could also be on the cards.

Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez has also been strongly linked with City, but the Gunners will be dead against selling him to one of their big rivals and the Chilean’s arrival would reduce the playing opportunities for Guardiola’s host of other attacking stars.
