Germany vs France predictions for their international friendly match in Cologne on Tuesday. This is the first meeting between these countries since their Euro 2016 semi-final. Read on for our free predictions and betting tips.

France have a fantastic recent record against Germany and look good value to continue it when they meet in Cologne on Tuesday.

As the stats below reveal, Les Bleus have dominated matches against their fellow European superpower since Germany was unified in the early 1990s.

Admittedly one of the rare German successes during that timeframe was a hugely important one as it came in the quarter-finals of the 2014 World Cup, Mats Hummels scoring the only goal to set his team up to thrash hosts Brazil and then edge out Argentina to lift the trophy.

But at the next major tournament, Euro 2016, France gained revenge as Antoine Griezmann’s double in Marseille sent them through to the final on home soil, although they subsequently lost in extra time to Portugal.

Both of these countries were also in action the Friday before this game, Didier Deschamps’ side hosting Wales while Joachim Low’s world champions visited Wembley to face England.

In terms of the squads available to both managers, Low is without Manuel Neuer, Thomas Muller, Mario Gomez, Shkodran Mustafi, Jerome Boateng and Jonas Hector most notably, but still has a very experienced group with Mesut Ozil, Toni Kroos and Sami Khedira as its midfield core.

Deschamps also has injury absences with the likes of captain Hugo Lloris, Benjamin Mendy, N’Golo Kante, Paul Pogba and Ousmane Dembele all missing, but they are still chock-full of mercurial attacking talent via Griezmann, Alexandre Lacazette, Nabil Fekir, Kylian Mbappe, Anthony Martial and Kingsley Coman.

The Germans made the more clinical job of qualifying for the World Cup, but the impression France give is that when everything clicks they will be very difficult to stop.

They have built up their terrific record against Germany during times when they have been in a much worse state than now and so odds of 5/2 for France to win here appeal considerably.

Germany vs France stats

  • This is the 29th meeting between these countries, both with West Germany and the unified nation. France have won 13 and Germany 10 with five draws
  • France have won seven of their last 10 matches against Germany
  • The latest of those was the 2016 European Championship semi-final which the French won 2-0
