Germany Under-21 vs Czech Republic Under-21 predictions for their European Under-21 Championship match in Tychy on Sunday. These teams are playing their opening game of the tournament. Read on for our free predictions and betting tips.

These countries meet in the group stage of this tournament for the second consecutive edition and there could be some value in backing a repeat of the outcome in Prague two years ago.

The Czech Republic hosted the UEFA Under-21 finals in 2015 but exited at the first hurdle as besides drawing with Germany, they beat Serbia but lost to Denmark and fell one point short of advancing to the semi-finals.

But even though the Germans look very strong, having qualified with a 100% record thanks to 10 wins out of 10, they have shown themselves to be vulnerable with defeats in a couple of friendly matches this season against Poland and Portugal.

At this level of football, success tends to be more about teams working for each other as a cohesive unit than a difference in natural ability and that is what has helped the Czechs get through to Poland.

The vast majority of their squad play for clubs in their homeland but one of the few exceptions is overwhelmingly their star man, striker Patrick Schick, who has scored eight goals in seven under-21 appearances for his country and is joining Juventus this summer from Sampdoria.

Schick, 21, is sure to be a handful for a Germany side that scored a bagful of goals in qualification but also, with the exception of the Czechs themselves, conceded more than any of the other group winners.

Germany’s head coach Stefan Kuntz has had his selection compromised somewhat by his senior counterpart Joachim Low’s decision to give most of his top stars a rest this summer and take a younger group to the Confederations Cup in Russia.

Kuntz’ squad is still strong, containing the likes of Mahmoud Dahoud, Serge Gnabry and Max Meyer in midfield, but they do look on the short side in the odds for this match and we will take a chance on the Czechs holding them again as they did in 2015.
