Gabon will play Guinea-Bissau opening the Africa Cup of Nations in hope they can bag easy points and top the group A after the Matchday 1.
Our primary betting recommendation for this match is Home win at 4/9 with bet365
Gabon will, together with Cameroon, be one of the prime favourites to win the Africa Cup of Nations Group A and meeting Guinea-Bissau should set them off on the right foot. They tournament hosts will now want to make it past their best AFCON result (Quarterfinals back in 2012) and we’ll back them to kick it off the best way possible with a win at 4/9 with bet365
Guinea Bissau have been great recently and they’ve made it into the tournament for the first ever in a surprising outcome of the qualification Group E with Congo, Zambia, and Kenya. They’ve secured the top spot with a game in hand and although they’ve narrowly lost to Congo in their last outing, they will certainly come into the matchup motivated to make an impact. However, we don’t really feel they can cause serious damage at Stade d'Angondje against a strong Panthers outfit on the day.
The Panthers do come into the matchup on the back of two World Cup qualifiers draws (0-0 to Morocco in October and 1-1 to Mali in November). However, those have come against stronger opponents and the hosts will surely be a different side this month with huge stakes at play in front of the home crowd.
Both sides have been good defensively but not really in their best attacking forms. Just one of their last respective four games played have finished with three or more goals, and we’ll surely see narrow and cautious displays this time around too so Under 2.5 goals FT does seem a banker bet at 4/6 with William Hill
Borussia Dortmund superstar Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been the focal point in many pre-match talks and he’ll surely play a key role in Gabon’s campaign here. Aubameyang has netted 16 goals in 15 league appearances this term and we’ll now back him to finally replicate the form in the national team as he can be backed to score anytime at 4/6 with Ladbrokes
We’ll also keep a close eye on Malick Evouna (backed at 2/1 with the same bookie), stepping up whenever Aubameyang struggled and bagging four goals in his last five appearances with Gabon and could now be value for those keeping the faith.
