Brazil have lost only once to England in their last 10 meetings and that sequence is set to be extended on Tuesday – but we are backing it to finish all-square at Wembley.

This is the second glamour friendly of this international break that England are playing at home following their clash with Germany on Friday (result not known at the time of writing).

On the same night, Brazil were in action against Japan in Lille and they cross the Channel to face another team with whom they could potentially be grouped at next summer’s World Cup.

Head coach Tite, who has enjoyed excellent results since taking charge, has brought with him a very strong squad including four Manchester City players in Ederson, Danilo, Fernandinho and Gabriel Jesus who could line up against their clubmates John Stones and Kyle Walker.

Chelsea’s Willian and Liverpool duo Philippe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino increase the sense of familiarity between the two opponents.

Neymar will perhaps be the biggest star attraction and he played the full 90 minutes the last time Brazil visited Wembley in February 2013, England winning 2-1 that time with goals from Wayne Rooney and Frank Lampard.

Four months later, a reverse fixture was played in the Maracana Stadium and it finished 2-2, Rooney and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain on the scoresheet for the Three Lions that time while Paulinho, now of Barcelona and who is in Tite’s squad here, netted for Brazil.

Apart from a narrow friendly-match defeat to Argentina in Australia and a couple of away draws when World Cup qualification had been secured, 2017 had been a perfect year for Brazil before this short European tour.

They may be too good for an England side missing several key players, but the draw does look a big price at 14/5 and we will count on Gareth Southgate’s men to hold out for what would be a very creditable result.

England vs Brazil stats

  • This is the 26th meeting between these countries, Brazil having won 11 and England four with 10 draws
  • Eleven of those matches have been on English soil, Brazil winning two and losing three with six draws
  • Both teams have scored in eight of the 10 games between England and Brazil since 1992
