Frank Lampard announced via Instagram recently that he is to leave New York City upon the expiration of his contract this winter. The former Chelsea man has been with the club for two years but injuries and a loan spell at Manchester City have restricted his appearances.
The former Chelsea legend did however turn in some fine performances for the fledgling Major League Soccer franchise once ready to play and he ended up scoring 15 times in 29 league appearances for the team, helping them to the play-off semi-final of the MLS this year where they were beaten 7-0 by Toronto.
Lampard has discussed in the past his desire to take up a coaching role once his playing days are over and at 38, that stage cannot be far off, but perhaps his fine performance in the States over the last MLS season may lead him to believe he still has the ability to make a difference in the Premier League.
West Ham United was the club where Lampard started his career with 148 appearances and 24 goals spanning six seasons and Slaven Bilic may be tempted to bring him back to the club. His experience could help a relatively young Hammers squad through a difficult period of transition in the new London Stadium.
Other former clubs Chelsea and Manchester City are competing for honours further up the table and so are unlikely to bring in such an aged player, hence why they're so far out in the running, but is there are a chance that Lampard may be tempted by regular football and the chance to win trophies north of the border at either Celtic or Rangers?
