Lyon will host Montpellier at Parc Olympique Lyonnais on Sunday for their Coupe de France clash, hoping to extend on their fine form and go through to the next round.
Montpellier will not be too happy with their Coupe de France draw, as they travel to Lyon on Sunday hoping they can surprise an in-form Olympique Lyonnais side. They have been in a poor spell of form after opening December with a shocker 3-0 win over Paris Saint-Germain, as they now come into the matchup losing three of their four outings since then.
Lyon, on the other hand, picked up their form and after dropping out of the Coupe de la Ligue to Guingamp on penalties they’ve earned two comfortable wins (1-3 at Monaco and 2-0 against Angers in front of the home crowd). Bruno Genesio’s men will now come into the match strong and in need of reinvigorating success in Coupe de France, which we’ll back with a banker bet at 8/15 with BetVictor
Les Gones have had several slip-ups at Parc Olympique Lyonnais this term but it’s fair to say it has been expected with the tough schedule they’ve had. However, they’ve earned six wins in nine league matches there and lost only to Juventus in their Champions League campaign this fall so it doesn’t seem Montpellier, who are yet to earn an away Ligue 1 win this term, will be able to cause an upset here.
Interestingly, Genesio’s men have bagged 17 goals in nine league matches at home but they haven’t scored more than two since September – and their thrashing 5-1 win over La Paillade. We’re used to seeing many goals in their head-to-head encounters, though, as four of their last five matches ended with six or more goals and we’ll now go for Over 2.5 goals FT which comes at a generous 7/10 with Ladbrokes
We’ll also keep a close eye on the goalscoring market, where the obvious top pick will be Alexandre Lacazette who has 13 league goals to his name this term and can be backed at 1/2 with William Hill
. However, we’ll also turn our attention to an in-form Mathieu Valbuena, who has netted five in his last seven appearances, as he might be better value now at 2/1 with the same bookie.
