Barcelona vs Las Palmas betting preview

Barcelona have made a terrific start to the season in La Liga and in the Champions League, winning their first eight games since the Super Copa defeat to rivals Real Madrid. Having lost Brazilian star Neymar over the summer, not many pundits were expecting Barca to kick on in the early stages of the campaign quite like they have, particularly as they appear to have slipped behind Los Blancos in the last couple of seasons.

However as Zinedine Zidane's title holders have stuttered in the first few weeks, Barca have raced into a four point lead at the top of the table in their first season under the stewardship of Ernesto Valverde. Having won all six of their La Liga games, plus two potentially tricky Champions League ties against Sporting Lisbon and Juventus, they're heavy favourites for the win here at odds of 1/12 with William Hill.

Las Palmas are one of the less illustrious clubs in Spain's top tier, although they haven't looked to be in any real danger of dropping out of the top tier as they've finished in lower midtable for three consecutive seasons now. La UD look set for another season of keeping their heads above the relegation dogfight this time around and with six games gone they currently sit in 14th place, where they finished last season.

When they raise their game, Manolo Marquez's men are capable of upsetting the odds as we've already seen with their shock wins over Malaga and Athletic Bilbao so far this term. They do however, make the trip to Camp Nou on the back of successive defeats at the hands of Sevilla and Leganes and it would be considered a real shock should they take the three points from this clash at odds of 40/1 with BetVictor.

The gulf in class between these two sides is evident when you check the respective rosters. What's more, Barcelona are in great form at the moment and they've racked up more than four goals in wins over Eibar and Espanyol already this season. UD will be low on confidence following that home defeat to Leganes last time out and we're backing Barca to take advantage and win with a three goal handicap at 5/4 with Ladbrokes.

Lionel Messi is generally regarded by many supporters as the best player in the world and the Barcelona talisman has started the season in typically fine fashion, racking up nine goals in six La Liga appearances, plus a further two from two in the Champions League. The 30 year old has the quality to lead his side to a comfortable win and add a few more goals to his tally here - we're backing him to score two or more at odds of 10/11 with Paddy Power.

Recommended bets:
Barcelona to win with a three goal handicap @ 5/4 with Ladbrokes
Lionel Messi to score two or more @ 10/11 with Paddy Power
