Tottenham Hotspur v Borussia Dortmund betting preview

Tottenham Hotspur's rise in the last few years from perennial underachievers in the Premier League to genuine contenders has been well documented, but there are still issues to iron out for Mauricio Pochettino. The main issue is that the club haven't yet picked up a trophy under his guidance but also their poor record at temporary home Wembley and generally in the Champions League.

That's why this game is such an important one for Spurs. They have been excellent in their two away matches in the Premier League this term, but at Wembley they have conceded last minute goals to both Chelsea and Burnley and as a result picked up just one point from a possible six. A big performance is needed here to help make the place feel more like home and more importantly a win is needed at 13/10 with bet365.

Borussia Dortmund have decided to go in a different direction by replacing Thomas Tuchel with Peter Bosz over the summer. The thinking behind this appointment is surely that Bosz will be better working with BVB's talented crop of youngsters that are coming through, but the ultimate test for the Dutch boss will be helping the club challenge for honours in Germany against the dominant Bayern Munich.

It's been a solid enough start to the season for Die Borussen. After losing the Super Cup to Bayern on penalties, the Westfalenstadion club have hammered minnows Rielasingen-Arlen in the DFB Pokal and picked up seven points from a possible nine in the Bundesliga having recorded comfortable victories over Hertha Berlin and Wolfsburg. You can back the visitors for all three points at odds of 28/13 with Unibet.

This Tottenham team's struggles at Wembley have been well documented and we expect a tough test for Pochettino's men as they take on a Dortmund side that includes some real quality including players like Mario Gotze, Christian Pulisic and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. The hosts know that a bad result here will make qualification a very difficult task but we're expecting a share of the spoils at odds of 13/5 with BetVictor.

We do however, expect goals. Tottenham have found the net at least once in 20 of their last 21 competitive matches in all competitions and the likes of Harry Kane and Dele Alli will be a threat to the Dortmund backline. That aforementioned BVB trio will cause plenty of problems of their own though and both of these sides are deadly when afforded the kind of space that is available on the Wembley turf. Both teams to score is priced at 4/7 with Ladbrokes.
