Real Madrid v Dortmund betting preview

Real Madrid are not performing to their admittedly incredibly high standards so far this season. As the winners of this competition three times in the last four years, they're generally regarded as the best team in Europe, yet they've been well off the pace in La Liga so far this term. This weekend's goalless draw with Athletic Bilbao leaves los Blancos down in fourth place and although Barcelona also drew over the weekend, they're now eight points clear of their El Clasico rivals in the table.

Although the Spanish side have confirmed their route through to the knock-out stages of the Champions League they've not secured the top spot in their group which has been taken by Tottenham Hotspur, who took four points from Madrid by drawing at the Bernabeu and producing a surprise victory at Wembley Stadium. With Zinedine Zidane likely to rest some players in what is essentially a dead rubber for his side, they remain favourites for the victory at 1/2 with Betway.

Borussia Dortmund are failing to live up to expectations both domestically and on the continent so far this season. With Thomas Tuchel replaced by former Ajax head coach Peter Bosz over the summer, the club were hoping for a new lease of life this season but instead they find themselves floundering down in sixth position in the Bundesliga table after some embarrassing results including a 4-4 draw in the derby with Schalke 04 after the men in yellow led 4-0 at the half-time whistle.

In Europe, BVB have not looked like the typically difficult to handle, quality side that has seen them cause plenty of problems in this competition in recent years and they've even failed to pick up a win in their two matches against Cypriot outfit APOEL Nicosia, who have been comfortable beaten in their other three Champions League outings. As such, Dortmund can't even confirm third place and a spot in the Europa League unless they produce a win in Spain at 6/1 with Betfred.

Borussia Dortmund may not be at their best at the moment, but that doesn't stop them from posing a real attacking threat and knowing that they need to take something from this game, the likes of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who has scored 11 in 12 in the Bundesliga, and Andriy Yarmolenko, will be dangerous. You can't expect them to keep a clean sheet against the quality los Blancos frontline that includes the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema though. Both teams to score looks like an 8/15 banker with Unibet.

Real Madrid don't really have anything to play for in this game so we're expecting another subdued performance. It's worth noting that they've already drawn one of their two home games in the Champions League so far this season and they come into this game having drawn three of their last five matches in all competitions, whilst Borussia Dortmund have also drawn two consecutive fixtures ahead of this trip to the Spanish capital. Odds of 4/1 for a share of the spoils at BetVictor look good to us.

Recommended bets:
Both teams to score @ 8/15 with Unibet
Match to be drawn @ 4/1 with BetVictor
