RB Leipzig vs Monaco predictions for their Champions League match at the RB Arena on Wednesday. New-look Monaco are trying to repeat last season’s achievement of reaching the semi-finals. Read on for our free predictions and betting tips.

Monaco were thrashed 4-0 away to Nice on Friday but are expected to bounce back when they provide the opposition for RB Leipzig’s first ever European match.

RasenBallsport Leipzig – the RB part essentially stands for their owners Red Bull – have enjoyed a meteoric rise to prominence in Germany and finished second in their first ever Bundesliga campaign last year, gaining direct entry to the Champions League group stage.

But it is asking a lot for the team coached by Ralph Hasenhuttl – aided by sporting director Ralf Rangnick – to make an immediate impact at this level and even though Monaco went a long way towards dismantling their excellent young team this summer, they still look the better bet here.

The team from Monte Carlo did brilliantly to reach last season’s semi-finals, beating opponents of the calibre of Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester City and Borussia Dortmund, before finding Juventus too good.

Since then, they have lost Kylian Mbappe, Tiemoue Bakayoko, Bernardo Silva and Benjamin Mendy for what will eventually amount to almost £300million in transfer fees, while bringing in the likes of Youri Tielemans, Terence Kongolo, Keita Balde and Stevan Jovetic to replace them.

Even more importantly, coach Leonardo Jardim has kept other key men in Fabinho, Radamel Falcao, Djibril Sidibe and Thomas Lemar, so there is still more than enough quality in the Monaco ranks for them to go on another impressive Champions League run if the newcomers can be bedded in quickly.

Obviously it is not ideal to go into a tough game like this on the back of a 4-0 defeat, but Jardim rested some players at Nice and previously Monaco had been in fine form having given Marseille a 6-1 drubbing with Falcao bagging a double.

Leipzig have recovered from an opening Bundesliga loss to Schalke with two victories, but this represents a brand-new experience for them and there is enough European knowhow in Monaco’s squad for them to get the job done here.

RB Leipzig vs Monaco stats

  • This is RB Leipzig’s first ever match in a European competition
  • Monaco have won four of their eight games away to German opposition, drawing two and losing two
  • Leipzig are the 12th different German club to contest the Champions League group stage
