Barcelona v Chelsea betting preview

Barcelona have been back to their brilliant best under Ernesto Valverde this season. After a few campaigns in the shadow of a dominant Real Madrid side, Blaugrana have been the best side in La Liga so far this season by a distance and last week's pivotal victory over Atletico Madrid all but confirmed the title as theirs as the Catalonian side have now built up an impressive eight point lead at the top of the table.

Having seen their arch rivals Real Madrid pick up this trophy three times in the last four years, it's on the European stage where Barca are more desperate than ever for success though. After cruising to top spot in the group stages by beating off competition from the likes of Sporting Lisbon and Juventus, they drew 1-1 in the first leg of this Round of 16 tie against Chelsea meaning a home win here would send them through to the Quarter Finals at 4/9 with William Hill.

Chelsea may see the Champions League as something of a saviour for their season at this stage. The Blues have lost all hope of retaining the Premier League title due to Manchester City's dominance in that competition and they've been performing below-par throughout the season and as such, time is running out for the Blues to close the gap between themselves and the top four, which currently stands at five points.

With Antonio Conte seemingly set to leave the Premier League club at the end of the campaign, the Italian boss will be hoping to bow out on a high and if his side go out of the Champions League, the hopes of that diminish rapidly. His side put in a brave performance and were ultimately unlucky not to win out at Stamford Bridge, but they've earned famous victories at Camp Nou before, another on Wednesday night is priced at 13/2 with BetVictor.

Barcelona v Chelsea predictions

This is going to be a real test for Chelsea. Although they dominated the majority of the play in the first leg of the tie, the Blues are now away from home and Barcelona have managed to get an away goal on the board. Defensively, Valverde's side have looked tough to breach of late, keeping four clean sheets in their last six games and five in seven in the UCL so far this season. Chelsea meanwhile have scored just four times in their last four games, so a home win to nil at 6/4 with Boylesports looks like good value to us.

No prizes for guessing which of Barcelona's key men managed to get that vital away goal at Stamford Bridge. The magical Lionel Messi has been somewhere approaching his best form again this season, smashing in 24 goals in 27 La Liga appearances, plus a further eight in all competitions. He's broken many hearts in this competition before and after his first leg goal, the 30 year old is priced at 4/5 with Paddy Power to get on the scoresheet in the second leg too.
