  • We all put on football accumulators every week don't we?
  • It's in the hope that one day, we'll win REALLY big
  • Well, this Paddy Power punter is already loving 2017...
Carlos Bacca #70 of AC Milan celebrates with his team-mate Suso

Most people are still desperately clinging on to some New Year’s resolutions, others are already sick to the stomach of morning gym sessions and vegan smoothies. But for one punter in Dublin it has been a very memorable year already – and it’s only nine days old.
On Saturday night he placed an optimistic 17-leg football accumulator covering Sunday’s matches in the FA Cup, Serie A, La Liga, Greek Superleague, the French Cup, some friendly games in Germany and Holland, the Mexican Liga MX and the Qatari Stars League! It truly is an incredible bet, and it came in – turning €10 into a jaw-dropping €246,342.27.

It was a bet that certainly came with a dollop of drama. Inter Milan had to come from 1-0 behind away to Udinese to win 2-1, courtesy of a brace from Ivan Perisic. The winner came in the 87th minute. Similarly in France, Clermont Foot were holding Bordeaux until the 87th minute when Malcom popped up to net the winner and keep this miraculous punt alive.

But the latest goal came at the San Siro. Cagliari were drawing 0-0 with AC Milan, with the online customer praying the home side could find a winner. With less than two minutes left on the clock Carlos Bacca duly obliged. The 30-year-old striker hadn’t found the onion bag since October 2, but his timing was just right as he buried Gianluca Lapadula hooked pass to secure three points for Milan, and more importantly almost €250k for this lucky punter.

Plus, with Roma winning 1-0, it was up to former Arsenal keeper Wojciech Szczesny to pull out a fairly impressive save to keep this punt alive.

Féilim Mac An Iomaire, a spokesperson for Paddy Power, said “It’s not every day that you land a 25,000/1 shot but he’ll have felt as though he’s earned it after having to endure several nail biting finishes. Seventeen legs across over half a dozen countries is outrageously ambitious and we’re only too happy to congratulate him on his winnings.”
