Egypt will close the Matchday 1 in Africa Cup of Nations as they hope to put on another confident display against Mali and bag their first points in group D.
Matchday 1 ends with the final match of group D on Tuesday evening as Egypt meets Mali at Stade de Port-Gentil, where the two in-form sides battle for the first points in their Africa Cup of Nations 2017 campaigns. Egypt will come into the match as slight favourites with more consistency and depth in quality, though, and we’ll back them to earn a narrow win at 6/5 with bet365
The Pharaohs come into the match with three consecutive wins in their last three outings and qualifying above Nigeria in the group G we’ve seen some indication of the golden Egyptian generation here as well. While Ghana are the prime favourites for the top spot in the group, we feel Egypt will be able to snatch the 2nd place and get into the final 8 ahead of Mali and Uganda.
Mali do have a series of their own but earning just one point in their two World Cup qualifiers (3-1 loss at Ivory Coast and a goalless draw to Gabon at home) there’s certainly been a disruption in the dressing room. They now come into the matchup on the back of a 2-1 win over Burkina Faso earlier this month but they seem to lack the confidence to turn this one their way, which would most probably have them drop from the competition early.
They have, however, been in a fine goalscoring form and we expect to see an exciting match on the day. Although Egypt have been steady at the back (and kept a clean sheet in their last two matches played), we feel they might have to do more against in-form Mali side and we’ll go for Over 2.5 goals here at a good-looking 8/5 with bet365
Mohamed Salah has played a key part in the final third for Egypt recently with two goals in their World Cup qualifiers so far. Although he failed to find the net in December and January, we feel Salah will be crucial for any AFCON success and we’ll back him to score anytime here at 8/5 with bet365
Over 2.5 goals at 8/5 with bet365
